ethnography: MEXICAN CURRENCY
The official currency of Mexico is the Mexican Peso. Even though the peso uses the $ sign, like the dollar currency of the United States, it also refers to the peso (which means “weight” in Spanish). A peso has 100 centavos. The one peso as well as that of the 2 and 5 peso coins have a brass center circle with an imprint of the Mexican coat of arms — an eagle with a snake in its mouth alighted on a prickly pear cactus. The outside circle is silver in color but isn’t real silver, but it used to be!
